Welcome to Oxhey First School
Dear parents and carers,
I am delighted to welcome you to our friendly and caring school. There is something very special about Oxhey and we are incredibly proud of our unique children, supportive parents, inspirational staff, forward thinking governors and dedicated PTFA. We all work in collaboration to make our school a safe, happy and vibrant place to learn and thrive.
At Oxhey we have high expectations of ourselves and our children. The challenges that we set the pupils show them that we believe they can achieve them, instilling the confidence and ambition to do so. We provide an excellent foundation for our children to develop as individuals and are committed to enabling all pupils to fulfil their potential. We encourage them to grow personally, socially and morally, as well as academically.
The aim of our provision is to encourage and foster an inquisitive nature and a love for learning. We believe that this is the key to success. We have a great deal of fun in our learning, whether in the classroom or outdoors, on visits or during themed learning days. Our dedicated, hardworking team of staff deliver an exciting and broad curriculum whilst bringing our aims and values to life. It is very important to us that the children make lots of wonderful memories to take away with them.
Together, we work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure our pupils gain value, knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help them become resilient, motivated life-long learners and responsible citizens of the future. We firmly believe in building strong, positive relationships between our pupils, parents, governors and the community.
Warm wishes,
Mrs Lorraine Jukes
Executive Headteacher

☀️🌊 HOT WEATHER = WATER SAFETY REMINDER 🌊☀️
With temperatures rising this week, we know many young people may be tempted to cool off in local lakes, reservoirs, canals and open water areas.
Please remember that places such as Knypersley Reservoir, local canals and other open water sites are extremely dangerous and are not safe for swimming.
Open water can contain:
❗ Cold water shock
❗ Strong currents
❗ Hidden objects and deep mud
❗ Sudden drops in depth
Even on hot days, the water temperature can be dangerously cold.
✅ Never swim in unauthorised open water
✅ Never jump into unknown water
✅ Always stay with friends and trusted adults
✅ In an emergency: FLOAT TO LIVE and call 999
Parents and carers — please help us reinforce these important messages at home.

While many allergies cause mild symptoms, some can lead to anaphylaxis, a serious and potentially life-threatening reaction.
This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide helps parents, carers and educators understand the warning signs and feel more prepared to support children with allergies.
The guide covers:
• Key signs of anaphylaxis
• Symptoms linked to airway, breathing and circulation
• Common food allergens, including milk, eggs, fish, peanuts and sesame
• Non-food triggers such as pollen, insect venom and medication
• The role of adrenaline auto-injectors
Clear, practical awareness can help adults respond quickly and confidently when it matters most.
